Frank CarfaroFrank Carfaro is the founder and creative director of DESIRON, a celebrated contemporary home furnishings company. A native East-Coaster, Carfaro was raised on his family's farm in Tewksbury, NJ, and grew up with a love of good design and iron in his blood. Carfaro recalls the origins of his schooling as a 3rd-generation ironsmith: "When I was three years old my grandfather, who came to the U.S. from Turino, Italy in 1921, had me out in the shop with him learning how to work with iron. I was hooked, though I didn't know it for some years." After graduating from Rutgers College in 1992, Carfaro traveled to France to study architecture at the University of Grenoble and design at La Sorbonne and L'Ecole des Beaux Arts.

Following a short tenure on Wall Street, Carfaro decided to marry his business savvy with his passion for design and artisanal craftsmanship. The result: in 1997 he founded DESIRON. One year following its debut, the company sold over $1 million dollars of signature product.

A first generation designer with an impressive pedigree as an ironsmith, Carfaro dedicates himself to the art of furniture design and construction, using his eclectic West Village brownstone as an incubator for his designs. As Americans increasingly embrace the modern aesthetic, Carfaro recognizes the need for the style to become more livable. In DESIRON, Carfaro has created a line of contemporary furnishings with chic details, clean lines, opulent materials, and inimitable craftsmanship.

Time spent away from DESIRON for Carfaro entails extreme adventures. Notable exploits include a solo summit of Mt. Ranier, completing the Boston Marathon in less than 3 hours, and circumnavigating Baja, off-road, on a motorcycle. With homes in Los Angeles, Vail and Block Island, Carfaro relishes the moments of quiet he is able to spend out on the ski slopes or on his sailboat.

Carfaro and DESIRON have been profiled in Elle Décor, New York Magazine, House & Garden, House Beautiful, The New York Times, Interior Design, Metropolitan Home, and Departures. In 1999, Carfaro was one of the key figures in Levi's "Slates" advertising campaign.
